Fastest broadband inflight

Starling Advanced Communication Ltd., a provider of innovative low profile two-way Ku-band antenna systems for aircraft, today announced that it will present its revolutionary MIJET antenna for in-flight entertainment at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2007, to be held on April 17-19, 2007, in Hamburg, Germany.

MIJET is the world's fastest low-profile, fuselage-mounted antenna for airliners. The innovative new antenna sets the highest performance levels for two-way Ku-band connectivity, opening new horizons for broadband in-flight applications, such as the Internet, VPN, PDA, VoIP, e-mail, mobile phones, video conferencing, instant messaging and various entertainment applications such as video-on-demand, live TV, online gaming and multimedia applications.

Powered by a new technology, the MIJET is an ultra-small (diameter 30" x height 6"), bidirectional airborne Ku-band antenna. It is suitable for any wide body airliner such as B747 and A340, or narrow body airliner such as B737 and A319. In addition to its compact size, MIJET sets the highest level of performance and bit rate for airliners: transmission bit rate of up to 1.25 Mbps and reception bit rate from 10-15 Mbps. MIJET is easy to install and requires only one cable connection into the aircraft. All electronic and RF units are housed inside the antenna for optimal ease of installation and maintenance.

Isn't this great? Too bad we can't get it in the USA because the FCC will have to approve it and you know how we feel about them. This is Israeli technology and is likely another example of in-flight internet taking off outside North America.
